>Dr. N. Rama Swamy, Associate Professor has 22 years of experience in teaching and 28 years of experience in research. He has done extensive work on in vitro culture, molecular cloning, genetic transformation of plants and genetic engineering of abiotic stress resistance genes. He has published 3 books on Biotechnology and more than 70 research papers including review articles in National and International Journals of repute. His research interests are: Genetics and Plant Breeding, Plant Tissue Culture, Plant Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology. He supervised research of Masters and Doctoral students in Plant Biotechnology.
He got funding from different agencies like DBT, AICTE, Ministry of Environment and Forests and AP Netherlands-Biotechnology Program. He was awarded the Indo-Netherlands Fellowship, 1997 at the Institute of Plant Molecular Biology, Vrije University, Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS-Italy) and UNESCO (France) visiting Associateship, 2002 and 2004 at the National Centre for Genetic Resources and Biotechnology, EMBRAPA/CENARGEN, Brasilia, Brazil and also selected for Indo-Hungarian Academy of Sciences Fellowship, 2006 at the Biological Research Centre, Szeged, Hungary. He is Convenor for DST sponsored FIST Program, Coordinator for Biotechnology Course at UG level (2000-2004) and Chairman, Board of Studies in Biotechnology (2004-2006). He has been appointed as honorary advisor for TWAS-UNESCO Research Grants. He is a fellow and an active member of several academic bodies. He has been awarded Academy of Plant Sciences India Award-2006.
